Background:

Rob Jacobson BSc PhD FRES MBPR (Hort) has been involved with biological pest control in glasshouse crops for over 20 years. He has previous experience as an extension worker for the UK government, Technical Manager for a biocontrol producer / supplier, and as a Research Leader with the UK’s largest horticultural research organisation.

Expertise:

Rob specialises in the development of whole IPM programmes and has focused on strengthening weak links in existing IPM programmes for high input crops, such as cucumber, tomato and pepper, and developing completely new IPM programmes for lower input crops, such as leafy salads and bedding plants. He has a successful history of implementing IPM strategies and a proven record of managing and delivering large projects for MAFF, LINK, HDC and private companies. Rob has written a thesis on the implementation of IPM and has produced over 110 publications, including peer reviewed journals, scientific and horticultural conference proceedings, the horticultural press and contract reports.

Activities:

Rob now operates as an independent consultant. His clients include the UK’s largest tomato producer and Europe’s largest organic tomato producer. In addition, he is a partner and/or subcontractor in numerous IPM related projects funded by HDC, Defra and private companies, as well as a visiting lecturer at Lancaster and Newcastle Universities.

Rob represents both the British Tomato and Cucumber Growers’ Associations at IBMA meetings, and is also an active member of the International Organisation for Biological Control and the Association of Applied Biologists’ Biocontrol Group. He is a Fellow of the Royal Entomological Society.
